What is a sponsor?
To become a sponsor is to extend friendship and
love to a desperately needy child in Africa. War,
drought, famine and disease have left thousands
of children orphaned or in extreme poverty in
this part of the world.
Every day is a life and death struggle for children
not strong enough to withstand disease because
hunger has weakened their tiny bodies. Your monthly
gift will provide a basic education, and other
necessities such as medical care, clothing, etc.
Not only will you be a tremendous blessing to
the child you assist, but in turn you will experience
great joy as you see your child mature and grow.
How much does it cost?
For just £18 per month you can help to give
a child a brighter future. We do have international
and Online sponsors, and in this case we ask for
(at least) the equivalent of £19 (or €22,
US$27, CAN$38, AUS$38)???. This is to cover additional
postage costs and a small charge from credit companies.
Can I write to my sponsored child?
Yes! We encourage you to write letters to your
child. When you set up your account we will give
you an address that you can send mail to. Your
child will write back to you, but please remember
that many of them have never been to school before
and cannot form letters yet!
How often should I write to my child?
We recommend up to three times a year. However
it is entirely up to yourself, so if you are not
a writer, please do not feel that you must write
every month.
Can I send gifts (toys, clothes etc. ) to my
sponsored child ?
The simple answer is no. All children love to
receive gifts! However, there are many obstacles
to overcome in sending gifts to developing countries
such as Uganda and Kenya. Instead, sponsors wishing
to give a gift at Christmas time may do so by
sending up to £10 to the Sponsorship Department.
All Christmas monies are deposited into a central
gift fund and at Christmas time a Field worker
will purchase equal gifts for all of the children
in our care.
How much of my £18 goes to Africa?
This will cover school fees, medical and also
development of their education. For example money
left over from all the children attending one
school, may go towards building a new classroom.
Administration is covered separately. If you wish
to help with administration you can add an extra
£1 or £2.
What do I receive?
A photo and short personal history of your
child.
The opportunity to correspond with your
child
A history of the child's native country
The Joy of knowing you're making a difference
to a needy child
